The post-hardcore veterans Silverstein prove that age is just a number. Twenty-five years into their career with 12 studio albums, one live album, and 6 EPs, the band continues to be a pillar in the scene. Silverstein took the stage Tuesday, May 6th, at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, New York, on their 25 Years of Noise tour. The band delivered a set that was energetic, raw, and emotional, balancing nostalgia with new songs.

Silverstein opened the set with "Skin & Bones" from their newest LP, "Antibloom." "Skin & Bones" is a raw and emotional song that talks about losing someone close, exploring grief, and the need to connect with one's inner emotions. The song blends raw energy with the melodic release that Silverstein has perfected over the years.
The band continued with the "Antibloom" album and played "Confessions," a melodic, emotional song about acknowledging one's mistakes and the allure of a destructive relationship. "Confessions" showcases Shane's clean vocals and lyrical ability that resonate with fans, as evidenced by those in the front row shouting the lyrics back.
Silverstein would hop off the Antibloom album and play "The Altar/Mary" from the 2022 album "Misery Made Me." This two-part track masterfully blends the band's post-hardcore roots with emotionally layered songwriting. The first half of this song is pure chaos with hard-hitting instrumentals and raw, aggressive vocals that convey a sense of inner conflict and desperation. The first half has the raw aggression that Silverstein is known for, and the crowd ate it up with a mosh pit and crowd surfers.

Then the song flips and goes from hardcore aggressiveness to a hauntingly beautiful section. The crowd's energy died down while Shane's clean and ambient guitar textures took over, leaving the crowd speechless.
The band continued playing songs from every album, slowly going back in time, allowing fans, new and old, to relive the moments when they first heard of Silverstein and the progression they have made over the last 25 years.

A standout moment in their set was during the song "The End," where it was just Shane and an acoustic guitar on stage. The song starts out slow with the beautiful blend of Shane's vocals and the crowd singing the lyrics back. The song builds up, and eventually, the full band comes in with Shane hitting highs that leave you in awe. I put my camera away and just took in the moment as it was happening.
The band would perform fan favorites like "My Disaster," "Your Sword Versus My Dagger," "Call It Karma," and conclude with "Smile in Your Sleep." Silverstein would return to deliver an acoustic rendition of the cult classic "My Heroine" and finish the encore with their debut single, "Bleeds No More."

Silverstein has aged like fine wine. Guitarists Paul Marc Rousseau and Josh Bradford work so well together, creating melodic melodies and some of the most bone-crushing riffs a band can create. Paul Koehler is a beast behind the kit, knowing when to play fills and understanding how to let the song breathe. Billy Hamilton holds down the rhythm with his bass and has an energetic stage presence that is unmatched. Shane is one of the most dynamic vocalists in the game with his melodic singing and intense screams. Twenty-five years in, and he can still hit the highs and the screams as you hear them on the albums.
Silverstein demonstrates to fans that they are not just riding the nostalgia wave. They have continually evolved over the last 25 years and are still relevant and at the top of their game.
